Lovelace-CRCE: Chemistry and Quantitative Analysis Core
The function of the Chemistry and Quantitative Analysis Core is to provide support for:
Analysis of test atmospheres (including Sulfur Mustard (SM) and candidate therapies)
Formulation preparation for inhalation, systemic, and topical delivery of therapeutics
Stability analysis of formulations
Development of bioanalytical methods for pharmacokinetic analysis
Assistance in the development of methods for biomarkers of exposure and injury
This core supports all projects by providing pure SM that has been synthesized, purified, and characterized by GC/MS and NMR analysis. The core also characterizes the vapors and aerosols of SM generated in the Exposure Core to adequately define and ensure reproducibility in the injury models for inhalation, ocular, and dermal exposures.
This core, through our collaboration with Nanotherapeutics, Inc., is providing both standard and novel formulations of candidate therapies for each route of therapeutic delivery. Analytical methods will be developed to characterize each of the candidate therapies. These methods will allow us to define the stability, purity, and dose characteristics for therapeutic formulations. In support of Project 1 (Evaluation of Biomarkers), this core will provide methods for the chemical analysis of specific biomarkers of SM exposure.
