Collaborative and Educational Opportunities at the Lovelace-CRCE
Visiting Scientist Program
The goal of this program is to broaden the impact of the Lovelace-CRCE by providing an opportunity for a researcher in a related area to 1) learn about the Lovelace-CRCE and the methodologies used here; 2) provide feedback on the Lovelace-CRCE research in light of his/her own research; and 3) discuss opportunities/needs for other related research. We propose to host scientists whose area of expertise and current research are closely related to the studies being conducted in the Lovelace-CRCE for 3–5 day visits to LRRI. During their stay, the visiting scientist will give a seminar in our Seminar Series and will meet and work with the scientists in the Lovelace-CRCE. Visiting scientists will be able to tour the facilities and learn about and give feedback on the proposed research designs. The Center will pay for the travel and per diem costs for visiting scientists as well as an honorarium. We hope to host up to four scientists per year to participate in this program and we want to take this opportunity to advertise this program to the scientists participating in the CounterACT Research Program.
Visiting Student Program
Similar to the visiting scientist program, the visiting student program will provide an opportunity for students at other institutions to work with scientists at the Lovelace-CRCE. These students will have expressed an interest in research related to the goals of the Lovelace-CRCE and agreed to a specific research assignment. This program will help to expose students to research problems and methods in the area of chemical threats and in particular to SM injury and train students in inhalation and exposure techniques. Selected students will work at LRRI for one week under the supervision of one of the Lovelace-CRCE Project Leaders or Core Directors. Students and mentors will develop written objectives for the week-long program before the student arrives, and students will be expected to attend the Seminar Series and to prepare a synopsis of their work and training at the completion of the program. We anticipate that two students will participate in this program per year and we want to take this opportunity to advertise this program to the scientists participating in the CounterACT Research Program.
